About
Functional Joy -
That’s the ethos behind FUJO, and the guiding principle of my creative journey.
I’m Alexandra, a multidisciplinary, self-taught artist, musician, project manager, and creative thinker. I create with a deep respect for the spaces we move through, the objects we live with, and the stories they carry.
FUJO is my design studio, but it’s also an evolving point of view: that the spaces we inhabit, when made with care, can hold memories, inspire feelings, and spark transformation.
I was born and raised in Portland, Maine. At 18, I moved to California and studied French and Marketing at San Diego State University, where I learned how to translate meaning across languages and media. I stayed in San Diego for 18 years, working in creative and leadership roles while building a life grounded in art—performing in bands, curating events, and making things by hand.
In my professional life, I’ve led large-scale design operations in the tech and customer experience space and currently work as a Project Manager at Sutherland. I manage cross-functional teams, coordinate complex workflows, and navigate challenges that require both systems thinking and creative instinct. This work has shaped my perspective on design, not just in terms of aesthetics, but also in terms of structure, clarity, and intention. Still, what I return to is simplicity. A red chair on the side of the road. A chipped plate. A space made better by texture and care.
FUJO emerged as a fusion of these experiences—a creative studio where utility and joy are considered equally. Through upcycled furniture, tactile installations, and my design zine Foju Files, I explore the intersection of form, function, and feeling. Whether I’m reviving a chair for my community or writing about color and design history, everything starts with the belief that we’re shaped by what surrounds us—and that even the smallest detail can invite joy.
For me, every project is an invitation to see the world differently, to find beauty in imperfection.
